Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Perfect Double Rainbow

Yesterday morning at about 7AM, to the west was a perfect double rainbow. My photo cut off the bottom due to trees. Here's someone else's photo. Look above the lower rainbow and you can faintly see the second one. I only recall seeing a very few rainbows as good as this one.

The sky is darker between the rainbows, something the occasional early landscape painter gets right.

If I'm seeing correctly, that's a Doberman. Great dogs. My favorite. Looks like he has plenty of room to run and roam.

That's funny -- we had one almost exactly like that about a week ago, at sunset. A full double arc, horizon to horizon. Did you notice that the colors are reversed in the second bow?

A few weeks ago, with the bright full moon , going out to check the irrigation, I saw what I guess you'd call an anti-rainbow. Shimmering white arc in the night.
If it was in color, somebody else might be as impressed as I was.
I doubt I'll see the same effect when we switch to manure spreading.

Optics theory shows that the number of rainbows is unlimited and multiple bows are the rule. However, normally only the first and sometimes the second are bright enough to be visible.
