Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Thursday, October 11. 2012Attack on Israel Must End Interfaith ShamThe following appeared at Contentions blog today. I'm reprinting it all for you to read. If you belong to one of these denominations, you might contact your local church's leadership and demand that this letter be protested. As this commentary says, "It should be specified that in most cases, these positions are largely the work of a small group of left-wing activists that dominate the public affairs policy work of their churches. Most rank-and-file members of Presbyterian, Lutheran and Methodist churches are, like most Americans, strong supporters of Israel and have little idea that this assault on Israel is being done in their name. But it is incumbent on them as well as other decent church leaders to denounce this letter and other BDS activities." If you are not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

There's a reason why so many Protestant churches are so rapidly declining in membership. The leadership has become increasingly leftist, and people who have gone to church to worship, have trouble with the multiculturalism, diversity and generally leftist politics being preached.
And compassion, they overflow with compassion. Why those poor Palestinians have lived in refugee camps in poverty for years while the industrious Israelis grow wealthy and are mean to their poor neighbors, or something like that. Rockets? What rockets? We probably shouldn't attribute evil motives when simple ignorance and stupidity explain pretty well. Yeah, we probably should at this point. Perhaps not to the sheep who follow, but the bad shepherds who lead them are consciously evil. Ask Ezekiel.
Bruce,
I wish I could tell you that it is only a small group of leaders pushing these anti Israel petitions. Unfortunately, it is more than that. I was a delegate to the regional conference of the United Methodist Church two years ago as they were voting on petitions to submit to the Church's General conference, held every four years (this last spring). One of the petitions we voted on was for divestment of investments from companies that do business in Israel. It had passed the smaller legislative committee by an at least 80% margin. It was brought to the total assembly by a procedural motion where it was voted down. It got maybe a 60% vote of the 1000 or so attendees, short of the 80% needed to pass on to the General Conference. I was flabbergasted that almost 2/3 of the attendees swallowed the explanations given about the need to divest. Admittedly, our regional conference is among the most liberal in the nation, but it still soured me on the whole process. I agree with "The Elephant's Child" that this sort of thing is killing our church. Pray for us. I quit the Presbyterians over 'divestment'. Tho i should have stayed in and fought from the inside. And i would have, had there been anything to correct with facts --but the legacy councils were about as interested in the facts as Yassir Arafat was interested in the facts. Some of that leadership is left/political, some of it just couldn't let the Catholic splinter 'revolution theology' (Marxist Jesus) steal a social-enlightenment march on them.
Worse, that age group --saw Christian churches in Europe cope with Hitler --and the Palestinians gave them a place to bury guilt. As with everything in marxist-world, the word-constructs can equivocate anything --anything at all --it's the intention of the dialectic, really --it's the finger dipped in blood -- Tobin is right, it is a sham. Liberal jews love liberal christians as long as christians say what the jews like. They get along swimingly, remember South Africa and all that anti-apartheid divestment? What was the result, the destruction of a white christian nation on the brink of collapse with murder of whites a daily happening. Why do we not hear from the jews about South Africa and the destruction wrought? Marxist Christians brought to you by Marxist Jews. Marxist Hollywood? Can you deny it?
I divested myself of the Methodist church after service in Viet Nam. It was this same group that condemned US forces in South Viet Nam and cheered our leaving Viet Nam and the final fall of the South. But where were they when the executions and re-education began. And when the North invaded their neighbors. Did they think there were boat people for no particular reason? No. These people are arrogant and evil. Screw the Kumbaya generation.
