Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Re the five-year media blackout on negative news about Obama

Any one of these would have had a Repub crucified on the front pages for months, leaving them battered and bloodied.

It's war. We conservatives have to take over the media and education. We can't just surrender like this. I feel like my side, the conservative side, just feels it's hopeless. Where is Winston Churchill when we need him? Blood, sweat, toil and tears. It took the liberals years to do this. We need a battle plan, and we need to follow it.

Its been this slow erosion for years, since the 60's. Being brow-beat, intimidated, even bribed into timid\flaccid behavour, its been the MO of the leftist. All the while, the R's Try to get along to get along.

The passing joke was to open up a retro-spinal column in DC, since there was an extensive customer base, and to give the Republicans a backbone, finally!

The Repub's look at it as discourse; a way to get things done; give a little to get a little. The Leftists see it as a war - nothing is sacred, only the ends\goals justify the efforts\means. See the difference...

Its been a casual observation, but the Republicans know this, but fail to grasp it - the left doesn't like you, barely acknowledges your existence, will fight tooth\nail for ever centimeter of ground, and will do\say anything to get what they can from you, only to welch-out once they got it.

Christie is the best example of taking the fight to them - hold them by the ears as you kick 'em in the a$$. Even Col. West does this. Too bad the rest of the party can't.

Yeah, Fred, you're right. But notice that we now DO have a Christie, and a Col.West, and Leo Linbeck III theories of displacing long entrenched incumbents at the primary level... The party is changing and for the better. Can't overcome 50 years of being "nice" overnight, though.
