We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
With Dylan's Not Dark Yet. She's too young and pretty to sing this song, but she pulls it off. She borrows Dylan's incredible phrasing. Buddy found this, so you know it's worth it. Trust us:
Here's another lovely offering from Severa with Vlado Kreslin (no idea what they are saying):
Thanks, BD! What a nice thing to say, too, on top of agreeing that this young lady got some major pipes --so much so she's kinda remarkable, really.
Some of what she does is right at the front or back of a phrase --i mean the coming up from a whisper, and the fade away tremolo --and is so understated i fear it can't be heard without headphones turned up to as if she's singing a few feet away, word to the wise.
ya, mighty young and pretty for ''Not Dark Yet'' --but these folks have been living a thousand years smack dab in the middle of the East-West Invasion Parkway Turnpike --maybe there's a note of that (fatalism? resignation? indomitability?) in there somewhere, feeding that authenticity.
--think i'll join Mark and toss in another side of the repertoire: this looks like Christmas somehow, and the song is traditional-sounding, like a familiar carol perhaps. I think she must've wanted to add something to the form, so what you see here at around 1:00 is --well, foreign stagecraft. And entirely charming --obviously old and close friends, mugging hilariously and showing mastery of the tilted-head look of love. Watch the end, the group hug, heads tilt like a flight of doves changing direction all at the instant.
Anyhoo, i was thinking, these are cool folks --hope the local commies don't rise back up and thwart them again. Also occurs that those Wild & Crazy Guys the Slavic Bachelors Steve Martin & Dan Ackroyd from SNL The Funny Years, were actually wild & crazy Numbskulls to leave back in the old country such a lovely and graceful mood.
