Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The Disappearance of Election Day - With early voting, 85 percent of voters can cast ballots before the last presidential debate.


So you can not only vote if you're dead, you can be stuck with a vote for somebody who died between your vote and election day.

I hate this! I want my election day back. Washington State is now an entirely vote-by-mail state, top two of whatever party. I can't help but suspect that this was a Secretary of State Project result of the outcry over the fraudulent election of our current governor.

This year seems to be another one in which military personnel don't get their votes counted. So frustrating. Whatever we do to insure that their votes get counted seems to make no difference, they just mail the ballots late, ignore whatever laws are passed.

It's a funny joke, but not a real concern, is it? We've always known that quite a few voters were likely to die between the election and the time the newly elected candidates will take office. A few days of early voting won't make a noticeable difference.

It doesn't worry us that people could vote in the morning and die in the afternoon before the polls close.

I may have posted this before, but here's a joke from Chicago, where Obama cut his political teeth:

"My grandmother voted Republican for 35 years and Democrat for 35 years."

"What happened after the first 35 years?"

"She died."
