We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
While the U.S. presidential election is far from over, conventional polls don't weight for political party. They report party preference. It's an observation. Consider how nervous Republicans quite apparently are right now, even though they have access to their own polling.
Rasmussen gets quite a bit of flack for his (apparent) Republican leaning. However, he has accurately predicted the outcome of the last two presidential elections, correctly predicted the outcome of the NJ gubernatorial election, and correctly predicted the outcome of the Scott Brown election.
His polling predicted a 55 to 66 seat pickup by Republicans in 2010 (63).
He may have a Republican bias of some nature, though the degree to which is unclear. But you can't question his predictions.
Bold is one way to phrase it. Pipe dream is another. What does the electorate know or care about Romney and Obama? Romney will cut domestic spending and increase military spending. He will not increase taxes for the 'rich'. Nobody over age 55 needs to worry about their social security or medicare. Under 55? Oh well. He will cancel that Obamacare thing. He doesn't expect anyone who doesn't pay federal income taxes to vote for him. The government will increase in size and scope. OK then. I wonder if all those retired conservatives know they are really Obama supporters? So, we will go bankrupt under Romney, but we will have plenty of 300 million dollar jet fighters to keep us safe from the Martian invaders. Obama will increase domestic spending and cut military spending. Obamacare will rule the waves. The 'rich' will be taxed and taxed some more. You know, all of those Tea Party types who are so proud of themselves for paying income taxes. Nobody needs to worry about anything because the government will take care of everything. The government will increase in size and scope. Obama expects most people who get something from the government to vote for him. So, we go bankrupt under Obama but we have plenty of food stamps. For a while anyway. Who wins? Obama, by a lot. Because nobody wants to cut back on their piece of the pie.
Standard way of reporting false polling data to damage the opposition, make him appear stronger than he really is.
Gets people leaning your way but not sure to solidify their vote for you, and might even make some of the opposition stay home who think the victory is assured so they don't have to bother going out in bad weather or at an inconvenient time.
