We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
In June 2008 I rented a moving truck for a 1000 mile journey. The Penske dealer encouraged me to rent one of their larger diesel trucks for a journey of that distance, saying that even with the higher cost of diesel fuel, getting better mileage (estimated 12 vs 9 for their smaller gasoline-engine trucks) would pay off over that distance.
If you don't recall the price of gasoline in June 2008, then you can go here and see it (click on the graph over 8 years option):
By that graph, the average unleaded price nationally was about $1.86 on inauguration day and is near $3.80 now.
In contrast, in the previous presidential term the price of gasoline was about $1.86 on inauguration day and was near $3.80 on election day.
My only point is that this is probably less of a good talking point than some seem to think.
