We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I disagree that Romney is a weak candidate. He is not a highly charismatic candidate - not yet, anyway - but charisma has its limits. If people want normality, R&R get the vote. If they want more hopey-changey, they will get more of it.
How much of this 'Romney is a weak candidate' is liberal propaganda? The more I learn about him, the better I like him. Democrats are desperate to make him unacceptable, and mostly concentrate on the idea that his wealth makes him unable to understand the common man. When I hear that comment on talk radio, I assume it's a D. precinct chairman or activist, and I hear or see it frequently, they usually add something about Ann's two Cadillacs, always sticking in something to rouse the ire of the undecided. It's an interesting campaign trick, but they are exceedingly desperate, and Obama is a fierce and nasty competitor.
The Elephant's Child
John Kerry was worth approximately $250 million( not counting his wife's $500 Million- $1 Billion) when he ran for president in 2004. And he didn't earn his $250 million dollars.
It came along with the first wife.
I can't remember any media eight years ago suggesting that Kerry's wealth separated him from the common man. Anyway, thank God for the Swift Boat Vets whom he maligned, along with every other Viet Nam vet, in front of a national televised audience when he was ready in 71' to say anything to launch his political career. Including, that the men he served with were butchers "in the manner of Genghis Khan".
Three purple hearts without a single day in sick bay ( and how odd that it was exactly three that qualified you for a transfer out of a war zone and to a different command.)
He put himself in for a Silver Star. No officer with a higher rank recommended him for that award. Check out how many people in Naval history have gotten away with that one.
So anyway, we might have just been finishing up the Kerry/Edwards dynasty this cycle, if it wasn't for the balls of a handful of serving officers in the brown water Navy who weren't gonna' eat his crap.
I believe, no proof to support, that the polls are significantly overstating for Obama. I hope that corrects by the election to reduce the amount of shock and angry accusations that will certainly come otherwise.
I believe more than one of the polls have stated that they oversampled Democrats. If that's the case and the race is 'neck-and-neck' that may mean Obama isn't really appealing to members of his own party and that some of them are supporting Romney. That's not a good sign for Obama.
