We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The search for Obama's records in the universities he has attended is a joke. I personally, was able to call an important university in CA 25 years after graduating and get an "incomplete" grade changed to a B-; that was done over the phone, playing on the known cultural weakness of a particular minority, said minority having been the gentleman who answered the phone in the records department. If it is that easy down at the lower levels, how easy do you think it is at the higher, well organized levels of power? With regard to "endowed chairs, faculty, centers, institutes, research, etc.", yup that is what those are--BRIBES. Anytime, you see a university with a "specialty item", i.e. "Center for Jewish Studies", "Center for Women's Studies", "Center for . . ." you are looking at a big chunk of cash donated by a private source for the benefit and advancement of an individual--usually the first occupant, or the first director of such an effort, whose term of leadership is agreed upon at the same time under a separate contract. OF COURSE, the third leg to this endowment is not written into any contract--merely a verbal understanding that little daughter gets a good transcript at the end of her four years. Here is how to check to see how many students should have at least known who Obama was at the law school level: check the school archives for number of law school graduates for the years during which Obama was "acting as" president of the Law Review. That's how many students should at least have known the name--then run a percentage as to how many do. Apparently there has already been some effort to collect some of this data--to say that no one in his graduating call should have known him is another example of poorly we have educated our children!
Please read more carefully. The article was not about Obama's time at Harvard Law, but about his undergraduate years at Columbia. There are a number of articles available about his time at Harvard Law. More than about his time at Columbia.
Why do I have to watch 10 days of women's volleyball? Why can't I see the qualifying events for other sports? Don't tell me the wonderful people at NBC aren't thinking that T & A will help to recoup some of their costs! GD I hate when this kind of control and dishonesty destroys something good! Ok, so we are not turning on the Olympics any more this year! I know that some of your sporting types here on MF will be happy about this situation, but some of us really wanted to watch sports !
