We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Big C update


Last week I noted that I need an operation to get rid of a tumor in my lower intestine.  It's always somethin', huh?  As my rather glib doctor put it, I have a cancer, not the cancer, and they caught it at a fairly early stage, so I've got some time to dig up the cash for the operation.  Gruesome details are here.


I just wanted to express a huge 'Thank You' to all of you who have chipped a little something into the pot, and especially to those who gave more than their fair share, so hopefully I'll make it.  If anyone's interested, my bio is here.  I guess you could say I've been around the block a few times.  If you'd like to join the Save-Our-Doc campaign, my PayPal donation page is here.


To those who have contributed:  While I promised not to spill the beans and let everyone know what a terrific person you are, I obviously will if you want, and if you have a web site I can promote in an article, I'll be happy to do so.  Also, if you've been thinking of putting up a blog or web site, I'll do the initial setup for you.  Just don't get a domain name until we talk.  If you want to do any of the above, just say "please email me" in the comments and I'll get hold of you at the address associated with your login name.

Thanks for the nice thought, pardner, and double-thanks for the encouraging emails. I've watched the video of the ocean pics more than once. Nothing like looking a raw nature to keep one's head focused on what's truly important.

Finally got PayPal to work - man, I have too many issues with PayPal - nobody else seems to.

Anyhoo, good luck with the operation. Kind of interesting that we had kinda the same thing at the same time although mine wasn't as serious as yours. Mine was actually more scar tissue than actual tumor from something that happened years ago when I was a kid. I had forgotten all about it until...well, this isn't my story, it's yours.

Good luck my friend - I'm not much of a prayer type, but I'll be sending along good thoughts and mucho good karma.

I get it! You're fluent in both Spanish and Hindi. Given how similar they are, I can understand your mastering them both. I gather you also know Italian and Russian, since all of those Euro-based languages are about the same.

Speaking of language oddities, be sure to tune in tomorrow morning. Have a pretty interesting post coming up.

As far as your own operation goes, it sounds like an interesting story so feel free to tell it. How does one get an internal injury as a kid? Knife fight at age 8 down in the ghetto? That'd be my guess.

Good luck, Doc! I hope your doctor is right and there's nothing to worry about.

I'll keep you in my prayers (and I'll try to augment Tom's good thoughts and mucho good karma) with some extra prayers!

Finally! It's nice to see the tumor also getting a little support. Poor li'l feller just wants to be left alone, but no-o-o! The big, mean doctors want to KILL it. It's an outrage! Quick, someone call the ACLU!

Thanks, bud. I'm hopefully working out a deal where I do a web site for a neighbor who will cook me a few meals and such during my recuperation in exchange. The good news is, I live on a boat, so I don't have far to hobble. :)
