Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Why Obama's immigration move is politically smart

It may be sneaky, cynical, and seems like a unconstitutional abuse of power, but this is hardball politics being played here. It's a power play, to mix metaphors.


Here are the clever parts: Obama preempts Rubio's plan (they want to kneecap Rubio), it helps with some key states, and anybody who opposes the idea seems cruel (it's not as if most Americans worry about Constitutional nuance - mostly people seem to just like an idea, not like it, or not care).


So whether his proposal ever comes to pass or not, Obama has called "Check!" on the Hispanic and immigration issue. Maybe Checkmate on the politics of those issues.


He is following the plan to pander to each constituency, each "community" he can. Solidifying a possibly-wavering base of voters with goodies of all sorts, and conveying caring sentiments. Obama wants to win. I don't know why. I spose it's a sport and winning is the point.


Axelrod has lots of tricks up his sleeve. He's from Chicago so you cannot misunderestimate him. They play rough, and they cheat without qualms. See Obama’s policy strategy: Ignore laws. Laws are just a nuisance when there is so much at stake.

What government rewards, it gets more of.

The Republicans could counter this in a minute--forever--by pointing out the flow of illegals willing to work for next to nothing keeps wages low for working families and should not be rewarded. But they won't. Each liberal sacred cow can be demolished by the Republicans with a sentence or two but they never do it. Never.

Correct, and so is ScottJ.
The essential point is that there should be a answer and if the Republicans and Romney can't make themselves heard during an election they never will.
But the reason I dreaded seeing Romney as the candidate, I'm from MA, is that he's not the man to do it. I'll willing to bet that, in this case, he will NOT respond.

Now Sarah, she would be on that weasels back with her skinning knife out.

It particularly hurts low income blacks, should anyone care to point that out. Especially young blacks whose unemployment rate is something like 36%.

It seems that the Romney camp has just been served up a hanging curve ball again. All Romney has to do is praise the president for following the ideas of Rubio and then chastise him for doing what he always does; take credit for the work and energy of others. And then point out that as President, he (Romney) would not attempt to rule by fiat, but rather work with Congress, the way that it is supposed to be done, to fashion legislation that has the representative input of all parties involved.

I think this may backfire. It may encourage some of the base that might otherwise set this one out, but it is more likely to drive more rank and file private sector union votes to Romney.

The Democrats don't seem to notice the actual members of the private sector unions don't really care for public unions, they feel like the public unions haven't had their back lately.

Hey, bird dog. Good post. However, while Obama certainly intends this latest maneuver to garner support, it can be effectively countered. But first, we must assume that Romney can defeat Obama. OK, with that assumption, Romney could, but won't, counter the Obama Hispanic move by declaring his intention to 'liberate' Cuba. This would cement neocon support, anti-commie support and South Florida. It would even appeal to many Hispanic tribes. A resplendent Romney would not go into specifics but would declare that he would normalize relations with Cuba, free the Cubans from communist tyranny and work to rebuild a strong and vibrant Cuba. He could embellish a bit about how the whole region would benefit, he is a business guy who can get things done, etc. It's important that he says he will meet personally with Cuban leaders in Havana and that he will not bomb or invade. It should be along the lines of Ron's Berlin speech. To the effect that the Cuban people have suffered enough under communism, Castro must open his borders to trade, family reunification, peace, harmony and normalization. Behind the scenes he can promise not to kill any of those old turds and make their retirement a pleasant experience. or else...
See? I'm pretty good at this stuff.
