We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
More than the self esteem movement, I think this is a result of the emphasis since the cultural revolution of personal freedom divorced from any concept of responsibility.
Everyone is free to wear and look how they want anywhere in public they so choose to be and nobody is responsible to present themselves appropriately to the situation in respect of the situation and others. God forbid there be rules about dress. I so badly wish that school boards would grow a pair and broadly implement uniform codes; it would solve so many problems including reminding the dear little ones that their precious freedom to choose how they dress doesn't mean a fig inside the classroom.
