Maggie's Farm

I'd missed a stream of Maggie's conscious over the weekend and was from time to time this morning catching up bottom to top or oldest to newest, so I'd scanned (i have to scan & return as there is usually too much Maggie for me to read her all) BK's Dunkin' Donuts piece. An hour or two later I come back and find G's piece here.

During that hour or two, watching Fox Biz' coverage of today's news on MFGlobal, Corzine, the EU and how it may finally force itself into an outright political union, and the general run of reports the background of which the various results of business having been peeled away, over the course of the decades, from meritocracy and results toward politics and process, and how that sequence has come into focus as a comprehensive deterioration not only of the accepted human virtues but also from the ostensible reason for the horridly-misnamed 'liberalism' to even exist, that is, social justice and the reward promised of greater citizen contentment and integrity, and the thought had occurred --this is after reading the Donuts and before reading or even having noticed the above:

Wouldn't it be great if the Marines were running this country?

No, really. Seriously. Think about it.

The first thought would concern the first inhabitants. The worse our politics becomes the worse we will have mistreated, and thereby continue to mistreat on the basis of creating anew daily further resentment, the Amerindians. The case can be made that all populations in all areas have always been constantly replacing or being replaced --but our Legend of the Frontier keeps the American experience in sharp relief --and the Russians and others in-country and out with their Critical Theory advocating against our culture --can hardly think of anything else it seems BUT the Indians.

So, okay, putting the Marines in charge would mean that the Indians did NOT lose to a bunch of low-life carpetbagging lawyers and their hired louts and gin-soaked whoremongers, but to the Great Spirit of warrior-medicine --like their own, just stronger --as Black Elk admitted way back when, when he could discern the true grit among the soldiers if not most of the treaty-signing tricksters in the command echelons.

And the Indians are just a start point, there they were the instant we were all, red and white, no longer fellow subjects of King George. But how would Marines have handled the issues that led to our 19th century Civil War? And how 'bout the current issues?

Well I dunno, it's just a passing thought, but i'd bet "better"! Ahhh...a nice respectful military dictatorship --what a relief!

That'd be the whole idea --that the country is dying of thirst for a certain mix of minerals in the water --now where's the best well for it?

Gad, what a motto. Contains even its own governor --as in, if one were to go too far with it, to let it trap into rote or harden toward fetish, well, that would not be relentlessly realistic. And no navel-gazing over world feedback can work around the categorical imperative.

But that's the idea --that we haven't been able to identify and expel those unworthies, and we need to give office to a subculture that has dedicated itself successfully to just precisely that.
