Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Today (actually starting last night) is the Jewish holiday Shavuot. It comes 50-days after Passover, Shavuot celebrating the giving of the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai. Shavuot also is when the hard work begins to harvest, as the hard work of wandering in the desert for 40-years. A key reading is the Book of Ruth, the significance of which binding Jews and Gentiles is contained in this link. -- Here's another: Shavuot and Pentecost have a common heritage: "both call to mind a God who wishes to reveal his plan, his power and his way to troubled humanities here below." It's a sad day when Dee Snider and Twisted Sister is reduced to doing Stanley Steemer commercials.
Sad day indeed. :>) A bit off topic but I was perusing The Rumford Meteor where I came across a story of a high school junior who has gone public with the story of being bullied in school. Getting no response from the administration she's posted an essay, "Is it really about education" to good response.
One point, her tormenters use her Christianity against her, calling her Bible-thumper and Jesus freak. One can't help but wonder if that name calling had been about being gay or Muslim, the school would have been more proactive. Although they do confirm they have an anti-bullying policy so there is that. I can't believe Washington "lost" Syria. It wasn't ours to lose. Before picking a faction to support, we'd have to have a lot of information about the # and make-up of the factions, estimates of the strengths thereof, and then think about good ways to support chosen factions (should there be more than one that are compatible with each other and have democratic aims). After that, get political support to actually do that, and then actually do it. Don't see any likelyhood of that.
Inequality courses...are unequal. Quel suprise. Most of us knew Dan Quayle was right back in '92. Lefties knew it too, but were ideologically committed to unwed motherhood, assuming said prospective mother didn't abort. Regarding the "religious left"--like anything else, it's the "left" part that's predominant. Q. Pig, chicken, cow, wheat. Which species is out of place?
A. I am. Forgot to mention, Bruce, you set a GREAT table. Doesn't look Kosher, though.
Speaking of Dan Quayle, I heard his pot dealer friend is busy terrifying the dickens out of several bloggers. Bloggers who would still be unknown but for the fact that Dan's friend stalked, sued, raped and murdered them. Well, they were terrified because he might. Congratulations to the bloggers here for having the strength to resist the urge to flee to undisclosed locations.
My problem when i need to flee to undisclosed locations is, i can't find them. Their locations are undisclosed.
So if we accidentally stuck a fork in her, would she be accidentally done?
