Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Monday, May 7. 2012My main problem with Obama......is the party he belongs to. The Dem Party is as far Left as it has ever been, and with that comes irresponsibility, vote-buying, and deception (ie "by all means necessary"). If I believed that socialism were a good thing for American freedom, I'm sure I would overlook his flaws and be just focused on the larger goals, as the MSM and other O supporters do. After all, politics ain't beanbag. Lying, deception, and skirting the rules have now become commonplace for O and the Dems. However, we must understand that they believe that this is justified "for the greater good." It would not matter what skin tone O had, it would be the same (altho I suspect being half-African may multiply the sycophancy of the media). As I discussed with a friend last night at dinner, Obama is not the problem. He's just the figurehead du jour and, it seems, not an ineffective one as figureheads go. So it really doesn't matter that the O is a slick con-artist who would fit right in with Newman and Redford in The Sting. Fred Barnes: Obama’s shameless electioneering. The real problem is that the leftist mainstream press, which is largely beholden to the Democrats, won't keep any of them honest.
Obama is a symptom, not the cause of the disease that is gripping our county. He is the result of a manufactured perfect storm of focus group marketing, demonizing of opponents, and journalistic malfeasance wrought upon a public that has become unwilling or unable to think critically.
The culture of entitlement has been encouraged and developed, and demographic pandering to "victims" has become the science in "political science." Until we can recapture the concepts of self reliance and personal initiative that made this country grow and thrive through our first 200 years we will be adrift. Julia does not understand what makes America great. I just hope there are enough not-Julias around to set the ship on course again. However, we must understand that they believe that this is justified "for the greater good."
And that's why it's so hard to talk to them about it, especially if you suggest that their methods and tactics belie good faith - that anyone not committed to their cause might reasonably believe they were acting like weasels and weren't saints. Kinda along that line, I was -- dismayed -- to recently discover that a few of my more liberal friends I've known for years, a few academics and a couple of M.D.'s, have swallowed the left narrative of the Martin / Zimmerman affair hook line & sinker. They were ecstatic when he got indicted. They are completely unaware of the facts that have complicated the left narrative, and circumstances that, whether Zimmerman's guilty or not, make the indictment smell like an opportunistic political prosecution. These are the folks that are supposed to be able to see through crude media propaganda and search for the truth before forming their opinions. Not to mention, you know, also insist that defendants subjected to criminal prosecution enjoy the presumption of innocence. They're acting like a lynch mob and I'm not sure they want to know anything that would make them think twice. Maybe it's just because I've practiced criminal defense law and can see how far over the line they've gone, but I've been really disturbed by their position - one thing it certainly is not: "Liberal". It really disturbs me - I had no idea how self-justified and righteous they think they are. They are showing a complete lack of the kind of base line circumspection about this kind of thing that I would have expected of them. Zimmerman might be guilty; I don't know*, but whether he is or isn't doesn't change how wrong-headed these folks are about the case. People are going freaking nuts. *Only Zimmerman, the police, and the prosecutor know what the important facts really are. The ones that matter in a prosecution. You can't expect any of those parties to have told all they know. The one certain thing is that the media, especially the wretched semi-news shows like Nancy Grace and her ilk, are mostly talking out their collecting rear end. Speculating like mad because they don't know all the facts and for now, can't. And, as we've seen already, the Media couldn't get the essential facts that are publicly available right in the first place. What a mess. --what's worse is that maybe some folks that DO know the case are yet willing to join the lynch mob (and playing dumb to do it?) in order to keep the Democratic Plantation from exploding ''due to'' an unpopular outcome of a fair trial, and burning down the cities.
No, Zimmerman i'm afraid is already aboard the railroad to join Sacco and Vanzetti and the witches of Salem. (from the Sacco and Vanzetti wiki)
In October 1927, H.G. Wells wrote an essay that discussed the case at length. He called it "a case like the Dreyfus case, by which the soul of a people is tested and displayed." He felt that Americans failed to understand what about the case roused European opinion:[145] The guilty or innocence of these two Italians is not the issue....Possibly they were actual murderers, and still more possibly they knew more than they would admit about the crime....Europe is not "retrying" Sacco and Vanzetti or anything of the sort. It is saying what it thinks of Judge Thayer....Executing political opponents as political opponents after the fashion of Mussolini and Moscow we can understand, or bandits as bandits; but this business of trying and executing murderers as Reds, or Reds as murderers, seems to be a new and very frightening line for the courts of a State in the most powerful and civilized Union on earth to pursue. Any criticism of Obama invokes the R term. I could care less what the color or his ears are; its what's between them that is the real cause for concern.
Lest we not forget C.S. Lewis's words on the "tyranny of good intentions."
The media, especially ABC and NBC, should have their tails sued for perpetuating myths about the Martin/Zimmerman case. Then we should thrash those who depend on the MSM for their "knowledge" upon which they base their votes.
The major networks have become a joke; the print went down the sewer long ago. Thank heavens for the Internet. Now we just need a public that knows how to research, which should be taught by the time one reaches high school. Little known fact: Saul Alinsky, the demigod of all that happens in the current leftward universe, spent two years running with Frank Nitti, Al Capone's enforcer. Search the Playboy interview of 1972 --Alinsky goes on at length --rather rapturous length --about Nitti's crew of 20 killers, about the value and utility of violence, about how you can always justify it later, if you have to, because the cause is more important than the people who have to be neutralized.
For those of us confused about whether Obama's crew is basically mob or mostly commie, this Alinsky info is perhaps the cause of the fog. |
