Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Elizabeth Warren Of course she didn't know about her "native american" heritage being promoted - it's not like she wasn't Harvard's first "minority" hire or anything like that. Came as a complete surprise it did. I'm shocked...shocked to learn that Harvard did that. What a load on nonsense. She's about as much of a minority as I am. Which, now that I think about it, isn't true either - I am a minority - a white Middle Class Christian tax payer.
I'm so screwed. Explaining the horse Horses are dumb vicious vindictive creatures and a evolutionary dead end. The only thing they are good for is glue and dog food. End of explanation. The President Has a List and he's checking it twice, gonna find out who's naughty and.... er... yeah. Anyway, this is going to back fire on President Metrosexual. Money is going to pour into SuperPACs and PACs and there is no accountability there - he's going to pay a price for that. You know what bothers me most about President Obama? Simple - he has no idea what he's doing, but he loves being President. He likes all the perks that go with being President, but doesn't like actually being President and having to lead from the front. This shouldn't surprise anybody - much like the Libyan affair, he leads from behind preferring to let others develop policy, procedure and rules without any input from him. Both the POTUS and FLOTUS have a sense of elitist privilege as the current residents of the White House and they don't seem to understand that folks resent that imperial demeanor. And that's why he has to go - we got rid of King George, now we need to get rid of King Barry. I only hope it doesn't take a second revolution to do it. Paranoia is just good sense As the old saying goes - just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean somebody isn't out to get you. And apparently it is our own government that we need to worry about. You think you are screwed now, wait until they turn angry and vindictive.
The enemies list can really backfire, especially since you can get on it not only by supporting Romney but also by not giving "your fair share" to Obama and even, for not giving him a harumph. That means the stakes of the election are higher for those "supporters" and once found wanting, it is in their vested interest to see Obama out of office. It just occurred to me, if Obama loses, he will not have the good graces to quietly leave Washington and stay out of the headlines, like out going Presidents have done in the past. And that's after all the angry, vindictive screwing he does to the country between the election and inauguration. I think the Persident's ultimate goal now is to be President of The World. Its obvious that he is an internationalist and a socialist so that would work for him. No work and celebrity status with all the perks, pomp and circumstance that would surround it. Plus Michelle would be able to live the lifestyle to which she has become accustomed to on the U S taxpayers dime with nobody to complain about wasting resources.
"if Obama loses, he will not have the good graces to quietly leave Washington and stay out of the headlines, like our going Presidents have done in the past."
Yeah, like Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton have been reclusive and stayed out of the headlines since they left office. Right. I predict the Obamas will be worse than the sum of those two. If you are embarrassed by them now, just wait until after January 21, 2013, when they can no longer live the high life on the taxpayer's dime. They ain't George and Weezy Jefferson. By comparison, ∅bama as an Ex-President will make Ex-Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter seem like quite recluses.
Sad, sad news re Don Surber. Reading his blog has been a daily pleasure for me for several years. Thanks to him, Maggie's Farm is also on my daily to-do list.
People who get near late retirement age tend to teach others to do their job lest they turn up dead one day.
So they wind up having made themselves superfluous, which speeds their exit, to find some retirement activity where they're not superfluous. That's probably true but I've been noticing a trend - at least with me and a few of my friends. I've been getting a lot of calls from old clients asking if I might be available for this or that project or to supervise projects or would you mind looking at this....that kind of thing. I'm flattered by it but you have to wonder why after five/six years of inactivity. Curiosity that's for sure.
My grandfather was "forced" into retirement at 72. The next day the company hired him as a consultant at twice the per diem and he continued in that role for another 15 or more years. He used to chuckle that he would have retired at 65 if he knew it was worth so much to get rid of an old geezer.
Just a note to the "crucifixion" guy. That's probably the dumbest statement of the month so far. Not unexpected, however. When one refuses, as this professor has, to learn anything about one of the major sources of our country's prosperity, and then makes faulty value judgments on the basis of one's own ignorance and refusal to investigate the subject he is pontificating upon, dumb statements inevitably follow.
By the way, professor. We don't do crucifixions any more. You should be relieved. I recommend that you do a little in depth research. The information is out there. Or is that just too hard? Marianne Re: Obama campaigning at the taxpayer's expense
Since Day 1, Obama has pushed the envelope with regard to the law. Remember the fuss he kicked up right after taking office about possibly having to give up his beloved Blackberry? To this day we still don't know whether the official business he does on his Blackberry is conducted in compliance with the Presidential Records Act, which requires all official conversations of the president to be transcribed and deposited with the National Archivist. That should have been a tip off to what we could expect from him. He and his wife are the ultimate grifters. Thousand dollar purses, $500 sneakers, Spanish vacations, summer on Martha's Vineyard hobnobbing with the uber-rich, what a life if you can get someone else to pay for it. ...well, personally, i'd be embarrassed to tote around such a vast gulf between my talk and my walk.
