We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Get involved in the shooting sports (trap, or even, if you must, skeet) or at least take a home defense course where you actually have to shoot guns. there's nothing more cringe inducing than the would-be Rambeaux with tricked out and cut down Mosschester Defendinators whose only use is blowing up pumpkins.
for a variety of reasons, experts recommend a 12 gauge pump with (if I remember correctly) No. 4 buck, giving a balance of reliability, stopping power and ease of shooting without over-penetration.
I had thought that the plants in the garden centers must be Arctostaphylos-hookeri of some other variety than the "long thought to be extinct-in-the-wild" franciscana
But no:

Tell me, if you dig up a native plant that you assume to be wild, and transplant it into carefully prepared soil in a new location, in what way is that plant now any more wild than similar plants propagated from cuttings of wild plants?
Regarding the relative threat to healthcare of obesity or ObamaCare, obesity is a threat to one's health, but not necessarily to the healthcare that one is able to receive. On the other hand, ObamaCare is necessarily a threat to the healthcare that one will be able to receive in the future due to the problem that will arise when there is no braking mechanism preventing people with trivial complaints from seeking care. If we couple the increase incidence of problems due to obesity with the lack of personal responsibility inherent in ObamaCare, we have the recipe for a financial disaster.
As the article notes, obesity is a problem that is preventable - not by vaccinations or expensive medications, but by inexpensive (indeed, free) actions taken by the individual, i.e. eat less crap and exercise more. So why (under ObamaCare) should the rest of us me MANDATED to pay for the healthcare of some lazy, slob who wants to sit on the couch and cram beer and chips down his pie hole?
