Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

QUOTE: Sultan Knish: Are you better off than you were four years ago? ... The old order must die, says the left, for a better world to be born. Sooner or later we must all mount the altar of change and let our blood drip beneath the shaman's knife, so that the green world may renew itself. Some must be euthanized, others aborted, we must pay more and give more, we must volunteer and donate our times, our lives and our minds to the new order. Our beliefs, our nations and our children, these too we must offer up to the fire. Heh. Parody, right? Obama's statement of 'luxury' to have a stay at home Mom is so wrong on so many levels. It should be the default family organization and society and the economy should be set up to enable it.
Unfortunately our economy is such that for many middle class and working class requires both spouses have to work. Also the radical feminist screed hasn't been about woman's choice but rather a demand that all woman should be pursuing a career like a male and belittling the great value that stay at home Mom really brings. So we end up with tons of woman delaying marriage and child birth pursuing a non rewarding cubicle drudgery disguised as a 'career' meanwhile depressing salary levels for male bread winners or displacing males who really need to be working so that companies can meet their 'diversity' quotient. Our culture is really screwed up. The Obamas insinuating that they were regular folks struggling to make it and Michelle had to work is such a crock. They've been sucking on the endowment/affirmative action/community activist teat all their adult lives. Talk about never doing an honest days work!
Hear, hear! Compleat courtesans, artifacts of the court of the modern sun king, the government.
The Obama household just couldn't get by without Michelle's make-work $300 k job from the University of Chicago hospital system- a job that was abolished after the 2008 election.
There is a Michelle quote somewhere about how expensive private school tuition and dancing lessons are. "After all you're the white male group"! I notice that a lot of people blame others when something goes wrong. An easy ouit and avoiding responsibility. Kids do it and childish adults do it. The problem is that it allows the individual to forever deal with their own failures. Women and people of color can always claim their lack of success or opportunities is the result of discrimination so they expect and willingly accept affimative action to get ahead. White males don't have that luxury. They succeed or fail based on what they do and don't have an easy scapegoat to blame their faliures on. Plenty of white men fail but many who fail pick themselves up wiser for their failure with a renewed desire to succeed and the knowledge that it is up to them alone to cowboy up. No affirmative action for white males who cannot make it. So why are so many science, math, leadership and innovative fields dominated by white males?? Those with an easy society prescribed excuse will say discrimination. But in fact these fields require an enormous committment of time and effort where ability and results are not "deemed" by affirmative action but judged by facts and the reality on the ground. Affirmative action is a killer of initative and hard work. If you give your child an out for every mistake and tell them everytime they do something wrong that it isn't their fault then they will never succeed on their own and will require affirmative action to succeed. We have done women and people of color an enormous disservice.
Yes, GWTW.
Huumff... BD got away with a one word comment, I tried two words with a comma... designated SPAM. I've been wondering when the diversity freaks would get around to battering the white males who, according to them, are in the catbird seat in our society. I'd like to hear from construction workers, plumbers, roofers etc. about that. Not to mention those white males who are busy in The Sandbox defending those of our citizens who are too old and too fragile to defend themselves. This whole approach of the Obama party of divide and conquer might come back to bite them before too much longer. I certainly hope so.
Marianne Another point, another stumble on the part of the Democrats and their attack dogs. They decided to pick on Ann Romney as a spoiled rich girl. Tut-tut folks. You're forgetting [again!] the necessity of the old saw about research-research-research in selling houses and crafting accusatory prose. Here we have a woman who has raised five beautiful boys to responsible adulthood, while fighting back from serious chronic disease and breast cancer.
But she doesn't look sick, they whine. No, she doesn't. Nor does she act like it, or ask for special breaks. She is at her husband's side in this campaign, competing along with him and helping to explain his skills, his vision of how and what we can do to bring our battered country back to health again. She's a brave woman and devoted to her husband and family. What's not to like? Marianne meanwhile in the other corner we have Moochelle Antoinette, mean as a snake, entitled to jet off wherever she can be fawned over,a world class hater of the land that let her and her strange husband catch the gold ring.
A mere fifty generations ago it was the year 1000 and mass communications was a matter of how many town criers plodded along carrying the message at mule-speed, twenty miles per day.
Fifty generations is a mighty small chunk of bio-evolutionary time to've done what we've done, which is to've vaporized time and space in the world of electronic mass communication (and nearly so in physical mass communication --the same person could've watched the Wright Bros at Kitty Hawk and the Moon Landing on tv). Long/short, we haven't sensorily caught up with our masscomm selves --and mavens can exploit this and elect anybody to president --anybody, anybody at all. We need to use our own mass comm powwer to break up these maven clusters --before they get us all killed. Apropos of Nothing I guess:
In 1946: Project Diana bounces radar waves off the Moon, measuring the exact distance between the Earth and the Moon, and proving that communication is possible between Earth and outer space, effectively opening the space age. The Bell X-1 is launched for the first time. ENIAC (for "Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer"), an early general-purpose electronic computer, is unveiled at the University of Pennsylvania. The first V-2 rocket is successfully launched at the White Sands Missile Range. The first artificial, self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction in Europe was initiated within the Soviet (Russian) nuclear reactor F-1. I just finished "The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors" by Hornfischer.
If you haven't you should. The guys on those DE's had balls the size of watermelons and did need a wheelbarrow to carry them around. My step-father, once, when I was young, muttered something about being on a destroyer in the Leyte Gulf, being sunk and making it to shore somehow. Then had to punch a wounded guy to keep him quiet when the Japs came by on a search. I didn't know what to make of it then, at twelve. Now I do. Great book.

"The Charge of Taffy 3"
--the wiki's okay but could be so much better. The crews of the little DE's looking at each other across the water between, and saluting --saying in effect ''goodbye, it was knowing you'' as they suicide-charged toward the IJN main battle fleet. Disaster awaited the landing beach and although Taffy 3 had no chance so ridiculously overmatched it was, Taffy 3 charged anyway. It was such a display of ''to hell with it'' it unnerved the IJN commander, who after shooting Taffy 3 to pieces, decided against hitting the helpless invasion fleet, and instead turned about face and steamed away from it.

You've got a point. Maybe I'll vote for the candidate whose wife has the least expensive handbag. In one corner, we have the financially struggling Michelle Obama whose handbag retails for $1000:
"Michelle Obama was spotted this week carrying a handbag that retails for almost $1,000, White House Dossier reports. The purse is a large two-tone tote in teal by Reed Krakoff, which was for sale on Krakoff’s website for $990, until it was sold out. " I wonder how much Ann Romney's handbag costs? Doolittle Tokyo Raiders link is broken I think. Goes to a Ninja movie making bleg.
Gringo tipped us off at Bookworm Room that you had a visit from someone calling themselves (royal address) Zachriel.
The Leftist Alliance has tools aplenty. Sometimes they flap their wings and a tsunami hits an island, washing over the fruits of human progress. ...and then the Facts mosey on up, and the tsunami is revealed to be a wave on a slop bucket.
No. I think the better analogy is that the slop bucket has become overwhelmed by a tsunami of facts. We're just, given better access lately, more able to swamp that dying tide in the bucket.
