We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
It's inspiring to see chicks who aspire so ardently for adulthood, independence, and self-sufficiency. They eat, sleep, scratch, and preen, but they want to fly and hunt.
Feathers, bones, fur, guts - they eat it all and leave nothing.
I'm nearer the end than the beginning, but I'm still astounded that life exists.
We are the universe contemplating itself (to no good effect, I might add).
OK, BD, you got us started on Norfolk which led to Decorah and Richmond and two sites for hummingbirds in California and various hawk sites around the world. Last summer (and now) I spent more time and energy putting up bird feeders and nesting material (lint from the dryer...good stuff) and rescued two lovebirds and some finches whose breeder had a pipe break. My grandkids won't eat fowl. Geez. What do I do when they realize that flank steak comes from Bossie. My cousins will be out of business.
Oh well, there's much to be learned from watching wildlife. Certainly more interesting than some of the biology courses. The Norfolk male is one sexy guy. He makes for interesting dinner conversation. Thanks for linking us with the sites.
My granddaughter, 2, loves watching these chicks. Nothing like seeing a rodent ripped to pieces and fed to the chicks as pre-dinner entertainment. That's reality TV.
