We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I don't think we necessarily expect the government to do something about the problem. It would satisfy most productive people if the government just got the fuck out of the way. Few of us really believe the government can "fix" our energy or education problems. If they didn't meddle in that business to start with I think we could fix their "fix" and get on with life.
'We the people' --having learnt how to speak and write a common language, if we had our druthers, would act toward these things we call 'intractable problems' long before they became worthy of the description, act like an intelligent plumbing or electrical system and spontaneously solve any imbalance and wave bye-bye to it in no time flat.
But some gang with guns, calls itself the 'Hole in the Government Gang', has got our druthers, and keeps installing switches and valves in every possible place in the system, whimsically without rhyme nor reason keeps them turned most of the time the wrong way, won't let us touch anything our ownselves, and charges us a fortune for this weird privilege of utterly thwarting our attempts to live sensible lives.
