We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
This music video, shot in cooperation with the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, takes a few liberties, as pointed out here, but although about "girl power" is also about the power within all of us to rise above "equality" to being special, better, winners. Marines know that. Katy Perry learns that, "It's an affirmation of strength" she said.
I noticed that, too, but then, she is a girl. And sure, it's kind of a hokey piece. Lot's of truth to it though. The Marines have tempered, or redirected, a lot of young blood.
If she would have went thru the full 11 (I guess, these days its less...) weeks of training, instead of the 3 day video shoot, her female gait would disappear.
But, its a positive presentation, not the anti-bias you usually get from Hollyweird. I guess, if it was a 'normal' piece, she would have stolen a M-16, and 'revisited' the boyfriend in the office...
But, it was well shot, and shows the USMC in great light. Semper Fi
Isn't this the opposite of the old French Foreign Legion joke where the guy joins to forget some girl?
I love our armed forces and often regret that I didn't join when I was younger, but I have to say I am ambivalent about women in fighting roles. I'm happy they want to contribute but I don't want them dying. Mothers/potential mothers/sisters aren't supposed to die that way.
I just don't know. I don't think America is ready to see it's girls killed, captured and gang raped. But, I may be wrong. If I am wrong, let them into the combat units, drop the reduced standards and privacy requirements and let em fight. But ya see, they won't drop the easier standards and they still expect privacy. Reduced standards will get them killed. Trying to provide privacy in combat will get everyone killed. I wonder, will the taliban go along with the privacy in combat rules ya think? I can't say it enough, privacy in a combat unit? LMFAO
