Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Wow - Sheba was told to be a Biblical Hottie - would be a find to find her gold...
I was just told by a woman I work with that birth control is "super expensive" and insurance companies should be forced to "give it away".
This person is also under the rhetorical impression that the Catholics are the ones trying to change the system, not the government. The underlying thought is that Catholics want to hurt poor women by denying them something they have a right to. 51% of people think this way, at least where I live. If it weren't for non-governmental organizations and individuals things would be super and all would be awesome. Anyone who complains or obstructs "progress" is viewed as an interloper, out of step, and dangerous to women and minorities rights (are there any other kind?) We don't only have a fight at the ballot box, we've got one in the streets coming too. --well, apparently that's going to have to be the one way to make folks appreciate what an achievement the previous 150 years in the USA has been.
Just had coffee with a gal who went to a "training session" conducted by the local activist inserts to our community. She was taught by this intruder from a liberal state, "that if there are 10 requirements on a job application, all white men will like on 7 of them and women only on 5. Therefore, it is ok to stretch the truth" I asked how she would describe volunteering in the elementary school cafeteria during lunch time? Her response--"supervisory experience with decision making responsibilities!" For those of you who have never been so bold, let me explain: volunteers are needed in school cafeterias because they feed too many little kids at the same time. Thus, the cafeteria becomes a place of disaster. Volunteers usually stand by the trash can and help them empty their trays, or pick up garbage of the tables, or hurry the little ones through the process so they get back to class on time.
Apple Pie, manning those garbage cans is an important job because the kids don't eat the school food and most gets dumped. And, the union janitors will take days to clean it up from the floor. (Been there, done that. Required heavy management skills when three students tried to dump food at the same time.)
Excuse me--that should read LIE--all white men LIE seven out of ten times.
I often wonder now how Eisenhower would have written this speech if he were alive today:
http://www.h-net.org/~hst306/documents/indust.html Perhaps it would have been titled: Military, Industrial, Union Complex. Or, maybe, Military, Industrial, Technology Complex or maybe Military,Industrial, Mafia Complex. Most importantly it might have been Military,Industrial,China Complex. Or then again maybe . . .? So you were able to work in a picture of a half-naked woman to illustrate a point about mineral extraction.
I like the way your mind works! Keep it up. Hey JMA--thank you! Nice to know someone else gets what is going on, either in the cafeteria, or in the school room!
Sorry folks--the time has come to say out loud--cities are for people, pretty places are for some people to find beauty some of the time, agricultural land is for the production of food, and developers ...well developers are for themselves and themselves alone. People (communities) should decide for themselves what the characteristics are of their space is. if you want to live in beauty, or if you want to continue the production of food, please don't bring in Wal Mart. Take a look here--right here is the place where WAL MART has pulled every dirty trick in the book trying to get approval to put a large store/parking lot, including out of state thugs! Take a good look, d'ya really think this is the place for a WAL MART?
http://www.cityofpolson.com Got too many people in the world? Well then address that problem before they are conceived. Well with income like this
Per Capita Income (2000 Census) Polson $13,777 WalMart might just be the kind of affordable store that this town could use, no? You read Powerline for the "articles"? Which "articles" in particular are you staring at while your tongue hangs out? Heck, I don't know what people see in Kate Upton. She's cute, in a pudgy teen-ager sort of way, but no sultry beauty like the Queen of Sheba. Same with Whitney Houston. I don't get such a big fuss over a drug addicted pop singer who wasted her life. It's not as if there aren't a dozen other pop singers with equal or better voices and talent who manage to stay straight, doing a decent job of coping with sudden fame and great wealth. Truly, "is a puzzlement," says the King of Siam.
DH and I just had the same conversation. The African/American community with the aid of the American Media do a terrible dis service to the young black teen agers, by not discussing the loss of her voice, the terrible downward spiral she went through and the loss of the last 15 years leading to her early death, all because of drugs. Ms Huston should be allowed to provide the kind of service she would want to give--by bring her "whole" story front and center so the young people will be discouraged from drugs.
NYTNewYorker--you don't get it--those are small farm families who don't need WAL MART. But, then again how about putting one up in Times Square--a lot of folks going through there every day are not high income!
Apple pie, you seem to have taken offense, none was intended.
Also, big box stores like Walmart have so far been banned in NYC by the democrat powers that be in a feckless nod to unions. The people of NYC however would be more than happy to shop and work at these lower priced stores if their democrat overlords would allow them. |
