Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

US tribe sues beer makers for $500m over alcohol abuse

I am not going to comment on who should win this suit. Whatever the cause, American Indians have a big problem with alcohol abuse. In a trip to Montana for a family reunion, I met a lot of American Indians. I noticed at least two characteristics that distinguished them from others.
1) They were friendlier to strangers than the average American.
2) A very high percentage of the American Indians I met either had a problem with alcohol or told me of close relatives that did.
3) OTOH, two of my aunts were 1/8 American Indian, neither of whom had alcohol problems- nor did their parents have any.
I don't know what the solution is. But the problem is there.

"The High Price of Telling the Truth About Islam" is IMO one of...if not the best oped I've ever read on Maggie's. I need a 2nd read before forming a comment as there is too much that I feel needs to be said. I need to connect my thoughts with my typing fingers.

I still have to see where a question about obama fits into the comment but I can say that, if this keeps up, I feel there will be a stronger need for another President like a "GW".

Do I feel a conundrum approaching?
