We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I just smile sweetly and say "Oh thank you, Merry Christmas to you too!" And, yes, I send Christmas cards to everyone I still send them to, regardless of their religious affiliation, because the purpose of sending Christmas cards is for Christians to share the love of God with people they already love. Have never had any patience with using a religious holiday to solidify business ties. If a Muslim friend (no relatives yet) chooses to send me the blessings of Allah, it would be churlish of me to object. I would be appreciative as it is the same God.
Now if someone sent me a card glorifying Shiva, it might be different...
I just spent quite some time helping man (woman?) our local town beginning of Xmas celebration. And despite the dreck about Happy Holidays, Christian songs were sung, and I cooed Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays, as I handed the toddlers their treats.
that is right, it is Merry Christmas not Merry Holiday not Merry 'be one with the moment' Holiday/ winter break etc. etc., etc. Everyone is entitled to believe whatever and in whomever they wish but Christmas celebrates Christ' birth and that is all there is. Merry Christmas !!!!!
