We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
As we prepare to head to the State Capitol tomorrow for the Maine version of the March for life, I thank you for sharing one of the best pro-life posters I've seen. As I like to say, if a young American can survive life in the womb, the rest is relatively easy.
This is not a "Sit-It-Out-And-Pout" election. This is a "Get-Obama-Out" election.
Oh? So voters should award the politicians of the Stupid Party for doing their best to act like Democrats-lite? I think not. It will be a tragedy if Obama is re-elected; it will be equally tragic if we elect a Liberal Republican who lacks the courage, the skill, or the willingness to roll back the policies of Barack Obama that are bankrupting the nation. Having listened for years to the broken promises of the Republicans that I've supported in the past, I have had my fill of them.
House Republicans had a chance to take a stand for fiscal sanity during the fight over the debt ceiling limit. When it comes to budget matters, they had leverage granted by the Constitution. What did they do? They punted. They agreed to a compromise they knew in their heart-of-hearts the Democrats would never honor. And so, here we are a year later, we are deeper in debt and saddled with the problem of unconstrained spending by a President who insults and challenges Congress at every turn. Except, of course, this is an election year, and the Republicans in Congress are afraid to say NO to anything the Democrats demand. Their surrender is total. It's Profiles in Cowardice.
Agent Cooper, let me point you to Romania, where the choice is often a three way between a communist, a fascist, and a nutcase. Would you advocate that theintelligent people simply not vote there? Forever?
It's not great, but don't despair. It's not as bad as imagination (and long frustration) makes it.
I said a year ago that the Republicans should just notify me in November who they've nominated, and I'll vote for him or her. I won't expect much, and we'll muddle along. Negative voting is superior to positive voting, I think.

If the voting age was 25, not a soul would lose a thing (we all get to be 25), and the death of America would be made a thousand times less likely.
