Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Sunday, December 18. 2011Sunday linksReader informed us that Barbara Orbison died last week There was plenty of tragedy in Roy's life, wasn't there? He was fortunate to find Barbara - or that she found him Class is a state of mind Taki: The Resurrection of Christmas With More Vacation Days and Separate Travel, Price of Obama’s Annual Hawaiian Holiday Rises The reason to link that bit of trivia is to reflect on how these sorts of things would have been handled by the MSM in the Bush admin. Bush, on his vacations, went to his dusty ranch and labored. A Texan with his family's Yankee genes and habits. One of the more interesting stories out of Britain is what the Mirror calls “a fierce attack on the Archbishop of Canterbury” by Prime Minister David Cameron. Cameron is "fierce"? I don't think so. He has fewer cojones than Maggie. The EU: Selling EU Serfdom to the Masses
If Jeb Bush could change his last name to "Rogers" or something, and jump into the race, he would probably lock up the nomination in days. I suspect so, too. Seems like a thoroughly warm and likeable fellow. If you want to come to Tennessee, fine. Just don’t come here and then vote for the same policies, and clowns, that ruined the state you came from. CBO: The President’s policy proposals mostly affect the revenue side of the budget. The primary difference between the baseline and the President's proposal is the extension of tax cuts for most tax payers. Do you support, then, allowing the tax cuts to expire? Or is the purpose of your post simply partisan? Doug Ross @ Journal: We have two missions: to politically obliterate the Marxist Left that has subsumed the empty husk of the Democrat Party; ... Marxists because they want to extend tax cuts. Heh. Most of the U.S. budget problems are due to the financial meltdown associated with the collapse in the securities market, and the resulting recession, tax cuts and unfunded wars. If by "confusing," you mean incoherent, sure.
If by "incoherent," you mean incoherent to non-sworn enemies of the republic, sure.
Oh boy-- do you believe this bunch of malarky?
http://old.news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20111218/ap_on_re_us/us_us_drone I was waiting for someone to ask about the Military GPS systems, Iranians hijack Joe Blow in his Piper...OK. Hijack a military drone by confusing its GPS, pull the other one.
Every now and then things fall out of the sky, especially when its a built by the lowest bidder something. Seriously, my question is; did this administration really deny the Air Force their request to go in and destroy the package? Low tech loss, big propaganda victory. We are operating drones over their airspace already, right? Small diff to go in and make a small crater. I want the next drone that goes down in Iran to be built out of plastic explosive so that when Acmed-genocide poses beside it, we blow it and him to hell.

Actually, that's what the folks down South said and now they are just Mass North (seen, Nashua lately?) In the North Country, we ignore tham as much as possible and mke sure we attend Town Meeting, a vote still counts for somethin' there at least. Ah, yes... Achmed the Dead Terrorist --- "Silence! I will keel you!" That was a great piece of comedy. I wish there were more schticks like that. Instead, we see pictures of Egyptian soldiers stomping and stripping Muslim women bare. I grow more and more disgusted with Muslim men, and less willing to cut them any slack. I'd love to see the Egyptian Muslim women turn the tables on them.
What a treat that would be. Marianne I don't understand what the hell the Republicans are doing.
The Democrats have NEVER passed a budget during the Obama Administration. They have kept things going with continuing resolutions to hide the stimulus spending that is now part of the baseline. The Republicans have played along because they don't want to be depicted as the bad guys in a government shutdown. What a bunch of sissies. We are headed for disaster at an incredible velocity. Well, budget bills originate in the House of Representatives & then go to the Senate, which either approves it or passes its own version, which then gets sent back to the House for reconciliation.
After the Republicans took over the House they passed a budget & sent it up to the Democrat-controlled Senate. The Senate was then obliged to vote on what the House has sent it; it did not pass, failing on a party-line vote. Nothing unusual about that when you've got a divided Congress. Now, in normal times a Democrat-run Senate would have just passed their own Democrat-inclined budget bill and then sent it down to a Republican house and the two chambers would hash out a compromise and punt it to the President. What's unusual now is that rather than make a budget proposal of its own, the Senate Democrats have sat on their hands. They haven't brought a budget bill up for a vote. I'm not sure they've even introduced a fully-formed budget bill. The Republicans in the Senate can't do jack about it. They don't run the Chamber. The House bill had to be voted on, but the Democrats running the Senate aren't obliged to consider any plan offered by the Senate Republicans. If the Senate Democrats won't come up with a budget bill of their own, and won't allow a vote on a Republican bill, then you don't get a budget passed to send to the Executive. The irksome thing is that if you're going to pretend to try to govern responsibly, you at least to try to -- you know -- govern. They won't even try. They're scared to. They know the only way to fund what the last Congress saddled us with is to raise taxes, not just on the "rich" but on everybody; and probably expand the tax base beyond the present 51% or so who actually pay Federal taxes*. Proposing a budget of their own would be like putting a noose around their own necks. So, instead of doing their jobs they're stalling and pointing fingers. It's disgraceful. I'm not aware that anything like it has happened in the last fifty or sixty years. A total abdication on their part. The President, of course, can introduce bills to Congress via the Senate; and Obama at least went to the trouble to have his own budget bill introduced. It was such a disaster the Senate voted it down ninety-nine to zero (I don't know who was missing that day). Since then, the President has not introduced a formal budget proposal, he's only speechified about how awesome his proposal is, or will be, when he shows it to somebody. What a bunch of knaves. *This would be a good thing, and something we ought to see done: expand the tax base so that more people pay at least some Federal taxes. Democrats and Republicans alike are afraid to touch it. I agree with you about the tax base. That was something I didn't like about the Bush tax cuts - so many people were taken off the tax roles. It's not just a problem for Demoncrats, but also for Pubbies. Whoever tries to expand the tax base will probably pay a dear price.
