Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"New study: Global warming much less than feared"
I agree with this commenter: "This is like tossing a cup of water on a burning building." For every one "Global warming is less than feared/dead" article the blog sites produce, I'll have three in my Anti-anti-AGW Project that claim it's the sole reason for the recent devastation of the innocent Snaggle-Tooth Furry-Back Mountain Toad whose only sin was its desire to live in peace and harmony with Mother Earth. What's to note, though, is that the bosses over at CERN got their wish when they kept their scientists from "interpreting" the results of their weather experiment which blew a gigantic hole in every AGW computer model out there. I haven't seen it mentioned once since then, simply because there's nothing to mention -- since nothing was officially 'deduced' from the data. Cartoon = +1. After Theo's remarkable 'Pic dumps', Mark Scott's collection of political cartoons is one of the highlights of my day. Re: The Machine Gun That Would Not Die
I watch a few gun shows on TV and of course they all had to have shows on another of John Browning's guns, the 1911. One of the people who spoke on one of them said he couldn't think of anything else that was still in use today substantially as it was when it first produced a hundred years ago. I guess pretty soon we'll be able to add Browning's Ma Deuce. Browning was a remarkable man! The NRA has a very nice museum in Fairfax, VA. There is a nice one at the Springfield Armory and I understand there is a Browning museum in Utah. The basis of the M1 Carbine was developed in a NC prison and in the history museum in Raleigh, NC, there is a very nice display of the tools and some parts used for it.
In answer to your question, I would say the NRA's museum would come the closest to what you're thinking. The authors of the study funded by the US National Science Foundation stressed that global warming is real, and that increases in atmospheric CO2, which has doubled from pre-industrial standards, will have multiple serious impacts.
Hardly. The problem is that expected climate change will reduce arable land, and lead to disruption of global ecosystems. Sure, humanity will survive. Some people will even prosper, but overall, humanity will lose much of their natural inheritance.
This is a typical example of the vacuous nature of the climate skeptic community. They point to a study and pretend it suggests that it means climate change isn't occurring or will be inconsequential in order to reinforce their own preconceptions, when that is exactly the opposite of what the study says. Schmittner et al. predict average global temperature change of +1.7–2.6°K with 66% probability, which is very significant. Bird Dog: Obama Peddles Myths About the Great Depression
Hoover didn’t increase spending significantly until 1932 (per capita federal spending increased 5% in 1930, 7% in 1931). Too little too late. The dramatically increased taxes and the restrictions on trade only exacerbated the problem. - xposted to eddriscoll.com Tim Tebow-emerging folk hero. I thought this was a well written article but agreed completely with the first comment that morality is not a racial quality.
I find it silly that the pop cultural left think they can set the narrative that the rest of the country should follow. That arrogance and condescension are effective ways to convince those who hold different values. My only confusion is how they developed such a strangle hold on the media. Funny thing is the left claims to always cheer for and defend the underdogs of our society. Well it seems anyone who does not share their orthodoxy is an underdog. The examples of Joe the Plumber, Sarah Palin, Bachman and Cain come to mind. In reality anyone that threatens the narrative must be destroyed. I hope Tebow can weather the storm. Forced to join a union--In Oregon, anyone running an adult foster care home is required by law to be enrolled in SEIU.
Zachriel ... You've been misled by a poorly constructed computer program, and you fell for it hook, line and sinker. You probably don't even know the difference between sea ice and pack ice. And I'll bet you don't know that your fellow Chicken Littles left the Medieval Warming Period and the Little Ice Age out of their calculations and predictions. Best of all, you don't admit that you yourself, as well as Nancy Pelosi, are a CO2 generator.
You could make a contribution to our safety, you know. Stop breathing. There. Wasn't that easy........ Marianne Marianne Matthews: You've been misled by a poorly constructed computer program, ...
Um, the original post cited the study as authoritative. Yes, like most science, it's a model. The validity of the model is judged by its fit to the evidence. Other research will determine whether this result is valid. Our guess is that you didn't even read the study. Marianne Matthews: You could make a contribution to our safety, you know. Stop breathing.
Animal respiration is carbon-neutral. The carbon you exhale was captured from the atmosphere by plants. Zachriel ... My husband and I have been following the course of this great con game since before 1991, by newsletters from real climate scientists, by studies done by Fred Singer and other scientists, by following the course of various supposed 'scientific' studies of polar bears and their life cycle. He has written about the life cycle of polar bears in a number of books, observed polar bear relationships in Canada, traveled to Russia to observe polar bear denning rituals on Wrangle Island in Russia. I would place his knowledge up against yours. No contest. Polar bear scientists have tracked polar bears through tagging and found that a mother polar bear can swim five hundred miles without making landfall. Or even breathing hard.
Carbon dioxide, which you seem to hate so much, is an essential gas, a fertilizer for all green plants, from redwoods to orchids and other flowers to grasses and other plants like wheat and corn. It's not a pollutant, and I promise you that if you and your buddies eliminated CO2 from our globe, which Thank God you can't, you'd be living in a sandbox for the rest of your short life. Marianne Marianne Matthews: I would place his knowledge up against yours.
Perhaps, but animal respiration is still carbon-neutral. Marianne Matthews: I promise you that if you and your buddies eliminated CO2 from our globe, which Thank God you can't, you'd be living in a sandbox for the rest of your short life. That's quite a strawman. No one is advocating eliminating CO2 from the globe. |
