Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Goose hunting

In Manitoba. A morning in a goose blind with friends is a darn wonderful thing, no matter how cold it is or how frozen your poor fingers are. Decoys, hay bales, and distant high-tension wires carrying electricity from good, high-carbon Canadian gas and oil:

You are so right about a cold morning in the blind. Telling lies, smoking cheap cigars and drinking strong coffee with some good friends - does life get any better? And if you bag a couple of geese, that's a bonus.

Damned Canada honkers around here are as tame as squirrels! You want a goose? A five iron wielded at any local greenbelt, golf course or athletic field will fetch a huge bird, just full of bluegrass.

Back when sitting in a blind was worth the effort and a shot at an elusive prey---substitute smoking generic weeds for cheap seegars--- I would have agreed with you.

On the outskirts of my California town, we have hundreds of geese in the fields. Can walk to within about 20 feet of them.
