We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Sheesh. Ask your parents before asking me to pay it. I have my own to pay for, shmuck. Next, they will want us to buy their cars and to pay for their car insurance.
Amusingly, such people are blind to their own greed which they project onto others. Gimme, gimme. If you gave him a free tuition, he'd want something free after that. An entitlement/freebie mindset never stops, and creates permanent infants instead of self-reliant adults. Or sociopaths, which this guy sounds like with his lack of shame and humility for asking for charity.
They will let anyone into college these days, it would seem.

Unfortunate reality of human nature - not just liberals or the young - the more you give people, the less grateful they are.

I have a certain amount of sympathy for those who have run up humongous debts in paying for college, especially those poor doofuses who majored in Uselessness Studies. One year I paid my college tuition out of my job washing dishes for minimum wage. That wouldn't put a dent into tuition these days.
It could be argued that they have been sold a bill of goods. Judging by some of those Occupy Wall Street signs, they certainly haven't learned to think when in college. Not only have they run up big debts, they have the reasoning ability of a fifth grader. They spent a lot of money to learn nothing. High cost, no benefit.
College tuition needs to be brought down to earth. That will involve to a degree a return to the colleges and universities of days gone by. 1) fewer administrators. 2) a return to more spartan conditions of yesteryear for students. That will be hard to do as the cinderblock dorms, for example, are a thing of the past. The upgraded infrastructure is in place already, and must be paid for. 3) Doing away with much of the curriculum such as the indoctrination coming from various Studies Departments. Online courses can bring costs down.
Agree. Also, those useless studies departments should be eliminated, that will reduce costs to everyone.
And getting people out of college and working entry level jobs will ease the discontentment, and lower the cost of college further (decreasing demand) and improve it by keeping the serious students in place.
This kid's beef shouldn't be with Wall Street. It should be with whatever college he attended that charged him for what was falsely advertised as education. His complete inability to defend his opinion that someone else should pay his tuition - other than to say that he can say whatever he wants - is the essence of what passes for higher education these days. Colleges graduate kids (as opposed to adults) who are not only illiterate, inarticulate and innumerate, but are unaware of their deficiencies in these areas.....and they are lacking in all manner of civilized behavior, grooming and professional demeanor.
To these people, free equals more. Since they believe [a college education, food, money, houses, health care, fill in the blank] is free (effectively so, since Democrats pander to them for votes), why shouldn't they have MORE of any of these? As they think their desires don't cost anything, they get angry when reality denies them and they respond in the only way they know, as angry children having a tantrum until they get their [college education, food, money, house, health care, fill in the blank].
That belief system has operated pretty well for the roughly 50% who pay no federal income taxes, yet receive the benefits of living in an advanced society. The drawbacks are the consequences, intended or unintended, and that it is not sustainable.
