We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I can't tell what these stoners think because it is difficult to decipher their logic. However, their demeanor is what probably turns people off. These are not good poster children for the Democratic party (below from Gateway):
The Wall Street Occupation Weenies yearn to be equated with the 1960s/1970s radicals, but they fail. The 60s rebels had specifics to rebel against. They didn't concentrate on messing up the environment surrounding them. Yes, they occupied the executive offices of the colleges where they were wasting time, but they didn't defecate on police cars, pile up garbage which clogged the streets and bring business and commerce to a halt.
These young people are busy having tantrums because things aren't going their way, yet they refuse to accept any responsibility for bad decisions made by themselves. If one decides to specialize in basket-weaving, gender studies and other niff-naw, none of which will equip you to earn a living, then it is your poor judgment which placed you in a spot where you can't get hired.
When my husband and I went to college, we each chose majors which contained skills which would help up get and keep a job. Since we both grew up in the tail end of the Great Depression, the getting and keeping of a job was very much in the forefront of our minds from the beginning. I get the feeling that these young people didn't do very much thinking about their employment futures at all. So when the combination of adverse circumstances has brought the economy to more than 9% unemployment, they are ill-prepared to find employment.
