Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Is that really fair? The article argues that skipping the test may have no noticeable effect on survival, while sparing a lot of guys some really awful treatments. There's a similar article here about breast cancer screening: http://www.lastwordonnothing.com/writers/christie-aschwanden/

We always assume it's good to have early information about cancer, but that may not be incontrovertible.

Am I missing something here? Nothing much seems to be being said about President Obama at all by the OWS mob.

As president, he is ipso facto the very incarnation of the American political and economic "system". So, when you "rage against the machine", it's Obama's machine you're raging against.

Try to imagine anti-Vietnam war protests in the Sixties and early Seventies in which there was no mention of Johnson or Nixon.

Or anti-Iraq War protests in which Bush's name never came up.
