We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Pastor was preaching today about our congregation being, or becoming, a "deep church" and not a "nice church."
Since our service ran 1 1/2 hours (as it often does), and the second morning service was coming up, I didn't have time to ask him exactly what was meant.
Thank God for these intertunnels. Here's one essay on the topic: Deep Church: A Third Way? If that essay is any indication, I think our church is pretty much there. I don't know about "nice," but we are darn friendly and welcoming. Growing quickly too, for better or worse.
Interesting. Ive never thought about this. May i ask how your congregation works? How did you decide which flavor of christianity worked for you? Is their any hierarchy or chain of command in your church above the pastor?
I ask these questions because i was religionless until mormon missionaries found me and brought me into, as we call it, The gospel of Jesus Christ, so i don't know the problems of the rest of Christianity.
Watched my church tortured and slaughtered by the liberals who took over in 2000. I have no church--learned the hard way that any man/woman can destroy a congregation and assist the greater organization in the sale of the real estate. I watched as older priests/pastors were told to accept homosexuality or loose their retirement benefits.
Nope--they won't get me again. My Lord and I work together one on one--don't know how the younger kids will learn to do that without the guidance provided by the traditional churches. Surely do know that with all the "liberal--be a better person" classes in schools--they have not produced better adults. In fact they have --it is easy to see now--the secular world/teacher's unions have produced several generations without a moral code.
My faith got me through this life, but I watched evil people lie, and steal and cheat and con their way to the "new church". No THANK YOU!
