We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Small businesses — hardware stores, gas stations or restaurants for example — are likewise unable to transfer themselves overseas. So they are far more likely to be unable to escape the higher tax rates that are supposedly being imposed on "millionaires and billionaires," as President Obama puts it. Moreover, small businesses are what create most of the new jobs.
Why then are so many politicians, journalists and others so gung-ho to raise tax rates in the upper brackets?

LightSquared will function as "a disruptive force" in US wireless "by democratizing wireless broadband services," the firm's new Chair and CEO Sanjiv Ahuja proclaimed on Tuesday.
"We're providing everyone, including underserved communities, with a fast, reliable experience regardless of where they are located in the United States. This network will return our country to its rightful position as a leader in wireless broadband technology and solidify its reputation as the center of global innovation."
Disemboweled bodies hanging from a bridge in Mexico? Time to bring our troops home from Afghanistan and post them instead on our border with Mexico? We're worried about "nation building" across the globe and all the while neighboring Mexico is disintegrating before our eyes. There are none so blind as those who will not see.
Ahh, yes ... the Bird-Shredder Boondoggle, as we like to call it. The much touted "wind farms" our President and his minions are so fond of aren't nearly as effective as the 'greenies' claim. As the old song says, "sometimes the wind don't blow, baby, Sometimes the sun don't shine..."
Back in the 1980s, my husband and I went to Hawaii and stayed at a resort on Maui, thus getting an opportunity to see their vast wind farm on the mountain side in action. We thought that, if a wind farm won't operate efficiently in an island chain with constant trade winds, then where will it operate efficiently? Turns out that this wind farm is now rusted out, with many of the turbines inactive and the ones that are, have mounds of dead migratory birds around their bases..
Like the song says, "Sometimes the wind don't blow, baby, Sometimes the sun don't shine."
