Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Zero's poll numbers are circling the drain now largely due to the economy. As soon as Iran tests its first nuclear bomb the whole narrative will change and he'll be finished.
MoDo:
Maybe Obama was not even the person he was waiting for. I never thought I would read a MoDo article I would like. Perhaps because I never thought MoDo would write an article so critical of The Won. When ∅bama said "We are the ones we have been waiting for," he was making a literary allusion to a book of essays by Alice Walker titled We Are The Ones We Have Been Waiting For. A blurb about the book from her website reminds us of The Won. QUOTE: We are the ones we have been waiting for, Walker says, because we live in an age in which we are able to see and understand our own predicament. With so much greater awareness than our ancestors – and with with such capacity for insight, knowledge, and empathy –we are uniquely prepared to create positive change within ourselves and our world. Compare this to ∅bama's "oceans receding" speech. In these wise and compassionate personal and political ruminations, Walker considers some of the greatest challenges of our times – ending war, healing the bitter scars of racism and oppression, defending the rights of women, and protecting our fragile ecosystem – and shares her understanding of both the challenges ahead and how all of us can find the inner strength to face them. QUOTE: I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth It as if ∅bama had read Alice Walker's essays and said, "Yes. I am THE WON who will do all that. I am THE WON you all have been waiting for."Both Alice Walker and THE WON are products of interracial marriages. Another point in common is that modesty is unbecoming to both of them. Sadly, our President is a putz - there I said it. He has all the hallmarks of a low functioning intellect in that he can't make a decision always searching for a different path or delegating the authority to act to someone else. These are all traits of a community organizer and do not translate well to the Presidency.
He's an actor playing a role. He's good at the acting part, not so good at the figuring out what to do next part. About the creek/run/stream thing. Most small ones are called "runs" in PA, except in the limestone/Karst areas where they are often spring name/creek, or just the spring like "Alexanders Spring". And then there's the "Kills" out east.
But "creeks" are definitely bigger than "runs". Pine Creek, Sinnamahoning Creek, Bald Eagle Creek etc would all be rivers anywhere else. They're bigger than most "rivers" in the country. I live in a town on the Monongahela River in southwestern PA. The river is about 130 miles long, and it's about 700 feet wide where I live. I still remember my amazement from about 25 years ago when I went to Connecticut for the first time and saw a creek called a river that wasn't any wider than our car was long. "They've gotta be kidding!"
What a spectacular watershed that is. Lot's of "forks". I've done alot of boating and trout/small mouth fishing up on the Tygart and and tributaries to the Cheat. Tygart Gorge, Big Sandy Creek, the Upper and top Yough and and as the kayak dudes call the Blackwater "Her Majesty". I miss those places, and Morgantown and Pittsburgh too.
Since other sites are featuring this piece of breaking news, I figure Maggie's should, too.
