We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
When I was a kid, in the years after WWII, all the boys learned and sang the words to the military branches' anthems. For your children or grandchildren who haven't, you might want to share this video, thanks to Gene Simmons (KISS).
Back in the 1940s, we sang every one of those songs, and I knew all the words. It's wonderful to see those young men and women carrying on the tradition.
Heh - I think you couldn't help but learn the various service's anthems when we were growing up - most of our parents were in the service during WWII - heck, I learned the words to the freakin' Coast Guard's Anthem "Semper Paratus" - the 1928 version. :>) Two parents in the Coast Guard, it was mandatory.
I got in trouble once when I pointed out to my DI that the Marine Corps hymn was historically incorrect - the shores of Tripoli came before the Battle of Chapultepec (Halls of Montezuma). He was not pleased by my knowledge of history.
It was then that I learned a lesson about literary license although I didn't know it at the time.
Dang that was sweet and a word to all the Muslim thugs, liberal jackasses and other enemies of our fair land. Look at those men and women in the audience. The lesson is WE WIN and YOU LOSE! Deal with it, God bless America, land that I love!
This blog post is super juicy. It looks like they are going to start fighting back. It's about time somebody took on these counter-productive ignoramuses!
If FreedomWorks gets their way, President Obama is going to get re-elected... Can't we all just allow the candidates speak and let people decide for themselves!
I had already seen this, but for some reason I decided to watch it again. I'm glad! It is great to see people who don't think we are the problem in the world.
I Remember Reagan said that some people wonder if they'll ever make a difference in the world, but the Marines don't have that problem. I would add that neither do the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and intelligence agencies.
Thank you Gene Simmons for breaking what seems to be the mold that so many of our arts community have been set in. You are truly a breath of fresh air!
As a former Liberal Democrat who saw the light, this all but brought tears to my eyes. It brought back the memory of these songs which I loved as a child.
I don't know about "guys" being the ones who had to learn. Where I went to school even us girls had to know the words--and I am damn glad they made us learn them. How many times the words come back like a whisper on the wind--give me something to cling to. The libs have destroyed my church, our school system, our voter process, our . . . . but the words in these songs keep me strong.
Thank you Mr. K. for reminding me.
Don't forget: An armed force travels on its stomach!
Logistics wins wars and NOBODY does logistics like the USA!
So don't leave out the US Merchant Marine. The USMMA is the only Academy entitled to fly a battle standard, since its cadets are too important to leave floundering in classrooms during wartime. They're "on the line", getting supplies to where they're needed.
Good point. One of my Uncles on my Mother's side was a Merchant Marine Officer - survived two sunk ships (by torpedo). Intentionally left his nice comfortable berth running Great Lakes ore ship to command Liberty ships.
