We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Reporting Rioting and Looting

I'm not an expert about the rioting and looting in England, but I take the reporting from there with a grain of salt. Why? Editors usually have a theme they impose upon stories. The scale of England's will require careful and honest examination.


Meanwhile, a New York Times reporter who covered the riot, violence and looting in Brooklyn's Crown Heights in 1991 just finally broke silence about the shoddy and misleading theme imposed by the NYT editors. It's worth reading: Telling It Like It Wasn't.

I had to turn off the streaming BBC because both the newsreader/interviewers and the guest talking heads were doing their best to come up justification for the actions of the rioters.
I understood why this upset me after reading Iain Murray on NRO today -- what keeps many (all?) of us from resorting to criminality to satisfy our lusts is a trio of restraints -- the internal moral constraint of our own guilt, the external moral constraint of shame if people important to us know what we did, and the external practical constraint of consequences such as arrest and punishment.
In the case of these riots the last has been shown so far not to be applicable. Why then has our official organ of state broadcasting set about trying to undermine the other two by giving voice to those who will call the actions of the rioters "noble"?

Genesis --so rigorously scientific in every line of poetry --is trying to tell us something about the 'word'. Anyone looking for a visual metaphor for the higher power could do worse than contemplate the pencil (and why the current vexation of western civ began with the pencil hiding from the people the callow Columbia J-school grad holding it, courtesy of such as the NYTimes).

The reason why? The Liberal Elite are moral snobs and moral cowards. They are afraid to take a moral position because then they would have to examine all their moral positions. So they affect the sophistication of moral equality or superiority.
In reality they are in rebellion against any authority. Therefore, rioters are noble and cops are inferior. Review any liberal position and you will find this rebellion. Environmentalism, baby seals, turtles, islam, the poor, global warming, homosexuals, atheism, abortions, fiscal constraint, more taxes, business, energy, look into the liberal opposition and you will find rebellion against authority. They will automatically take the anti-authority or deviant position in every case. Blick

Its proof positive that when you coddle the crims, placate their wims, it effects society as a whole.

Hamstringing the protectors of law/order, ineffective leadership, and a political will akin to liquid fecal-matter instead of the bedrock to preserve the society/culture, you have the makings of the fall of Rome, modern day.

...and people wonder why I want my own land, and declare to shoot any invader, and want to be just left alone.

The Daily Telegraph (UK) had a interesting story, the British Police can now request the use of water cannon,"On 24 hour notice". Frankly, I don't think the rioters have the patience to wait.
The areas in the cities that didn't burn, where the people came out to defend their homes, businesses and places of worship were the Arab, Asian, Indian and Turkish communities. Does this quote remind you of the English Yeoman of yore;

"Hundreds of people outside a Sikh temple in Southall, south London, stood shoulder to shoulder yesterday to defend their place of worship from young rioters."

My opinion, the Anglican houses of worship in England are empty these days (1.9% of the population attends services), an entire generation has been raised without spiritual or moral guidance. No man without belief can stand before those filled with faith. The men without belief in Britain are the ruling class, the rioters were never educated but filled with self-esteem and the majority of the immigrants hold strong belief systems and family ties. Come back in twenty years and how do you think this is going to play out?

I love the concept of some imbecile screeching about something being inept -- and then ineptly misspelling the word. Now that's funny.
