We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Have you heard Trombone Shorty? I enjoyed hearing him and his band live, last summer. Had a quick chat with him, too, after the set. He is a sweetheart, and very humble despite being such a prodigy and, now, a star.
Of course - everybody knows who Trombone Shorty is - Troy Andrews. His brother is James Andrews who plays trumpet, directs a big band and scored a lot of the music for the TV show "Treme".
M'Lady and I each try to be the first to grab Garden and Gun when it's delivered to the estate. Though we do not live in the South this magazine has inspired us to travel in that direction more (just recently spent a few wonderful days in Savannah, GA). Not to mention that it covers our two favorite hobbies....
Coincidentally, yesterday I listened to a CD of the Master, a.k.a. Louis Armstrong, play this rendition of St.James Infirmary. Mr. Armstrong would have given Mr. Shorty his blessing. Both Trombone Shorty's ability as a musician and his showmanshp remind us of Louis Armstrong. Not to mention shared New Orleans origins.
That New Orleans keep this music alive is to its credit.
