Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

60.5 degrees F.

That's the refreshing, zingy water temp on the ocean beaches on the Cape today. Warmer on Cape Cod Bay. Heck, if you want warm water, take a bath.


By the way, that Head of the Meadows bike trail up there is a very pleasant walk, and excellent for bird-watching (and Black Snake-watching).

Surface temp on Lake Murray was 88.6ºF this morning. Ten feet down it was 79 - twenty feet it was 66º - 100 feet 57º and stayed that temp down to 250'.

Kind of explains why the fish are holding about the 90 foot level. :>)

Water actually feels warmer owing to its humidity.

I like me some Newcomb Hollow. It was a wider beach when I was young, but the coastline had different ideas. I used to walk from Marconi to Head of the Meadow on a fine September day.

Looks like that shot might be Lecount Hollow, which was my usual summer daytime hangout when I was a teenager. After that back to a pond (usually Long, sometimes Great, Gull, or Dyer) for an afternoon swim. For nightlife (once old enough for it) there was the Beachcomber at Cahoon Hollow beach, or upstairs at Aesop's, or Ye Olde Ducke Creeke Taverne. I haven't been back to the Cape for a long time but this sequence of postings is bringing back memories.
