The Constitution's dangerous loophole

George Will, via Hot Air's Quote of the Day:

“The question is, has the congressional power to regulate interstate commerce been so loosely construed that now Congress can do anything at all, that there is nothing it cannot do.

“Let me ask the three of you. Obviously, obesity and its costs affect interstate commerce. Does Congress have the constitutional power to require obese people to sign up for Weight Watchers? If not, why not?”

Apparently none of the Dems on the panel could answer that question.

I viewed the video clip at the Newsbusters web site, and of course Will's two interlocutors refused to answer his question with a direct Yes or No. Their rambling replies reveal the truth: as usual, when it comes to the ObamaCare individual mandate, the Left is throwing crap against the judicial wall and hoping some of it sticks. Geez, the first panelist cornered by Will couldn't even bring himself to admit the law includes a MANDATE and kept insisting it was merely in the nature of a REQUEST. How pathetic some people have become in their utter eagerness to surrender the liberties that are enshrined in our nation's Constitution!

Because their intellectually consistent response would be "yes".

It's the end of the Constitution as a limiting document if the Supreme Court upholds that law.

When the first conservative says that if Congress' power to regulate interstate commerce extends to the decision to buy medical care, then it also includes the decision to engage in, oh, an abortion, a homosexual affair, or whatever else you can name that liberals don't want to regulate: then the fig leaves will fall.

I too viewed this panel. The liberals refused to answer the question and claimed it was up to the Supreme Court. That explains their fanaticism about SCOTUS appointees.

Seems to be their game plan - when asked a question where the truth would be unpopular, don't answer.

what was a hoot was the black "intellectual" Professor Dyson, when asked which was his favorite Founding Father, he replied Jefferson.

Why? Because he slept with his black slave, Sally Hemings.

I guess who you pork give validity in a liberal's eyes.
