We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"You never know what you'll see while sailing off Long Island."
You got that right. I had a submarine (688 attack sub) surface about 100 yards from me about a mile outside The Race. Then there was the stupidest thing I've ever seen - two private aircraft from Fisher's Island "dogfighting" over the lighthouse on Race Rock. Needless to say the collision was spectacular. Saw a moron in a beautiful Fountain center console run his boat right into Plum Island at full speed - while he was on autopilot and under the console taking a leak - I presume.
Then again, I've seen The Spirit of Massachusetts, Amistad, the Eagle under full sail (a gorgeous sight I might add), a bunch of tall ships and damn near swamped by the wake thrown by the USS Rhode Island - SSBN 740. :>)
I followed the link to the main site and then to a piece about 9/11. In recreating the voyage of 1609 the Half Moon was two miles below the Trade Towers on the fateful day. Interesting read.
