Some things I didn't find a way to fit into my prior posts. Glad some readers have enjoyed the posts.
(For those who might be interested, I have created a Travelogue and Travel Ideas category which can be linked on the left column. Haven't had time to go back and re-categorize older trips to that category, yet.)

More below the fold -
It took us 5 hours to hike down from the Abbazia down to the Nera Valley, then up the other side on goat paths to take a look at a tiny, long abandoned town with a tower (for protection from the Saracens).
We didn't get lost in the woods, but easily could have. Thing is, you always know that down brings you back to the river.
That's a fig tree.
The tower had no entrance. They used ladders in the old days. The abandoned buildings were full of bats.
The farm village in the valley had one cafe.
I liked this little tractor
We took a drive to Spoleto. The duomo in Spoleto. They are doing some repairs on the tower. In the square, they are assembling things for the Spoleto Festival.
They had a photo display in the baptistery to celebrate Pope John Paul's beatification. One of the photos:
This restaurant in Spoleto looked good to me.
We shared two Primis: Polenta with Black Truffle and Porcini sauce, and Stringozzi Carbonara. They make it with Pancetta. I love polenta.
The purpose of this pic is simply to show how Italians put gardens everywhere they can - no lawns, just gardens
I thought the lack of privacy in this duomo confessional was interesting:
