We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
While my husband and I were still traveling, I remember when we went to one of the most luxurious restaurants in Kowloon. Nevertheless, I hadn't ordered anything uncooked, since cleanliness may be next to godliness, but in the Far East it is also at times next to impossible. As we departed the restaurant, we passed the alley behind it. There, at the back door, a little man was crouched, with a bowl of lettuce on one side, and a bowl of what i suppose was water on the other, rinsing the lettuce leaves carefully and piling them on a cloth next to him.
