We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
As a little boy I would sing Tennessee Ernie Ford's "16 Tons" along with my hard-working father. The song lastingly impressed me at how difficult it can be to get ahead if under an exploitive thumb. Thank you Iowahawk for this updated version. I'll play it for my sons tonight.
When governments run up such profligate debt it leaves very little incentive for private citizens to apply any probity to their personal finances.
If the government spending is going to wreck the economy, reduce the value of the dollar and saddle you and your children's children with mountains of debt regardless of your own fiscal diligence, why bother about it?
