We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
When it comes to statist intrusions and Big Brother doublespeak, it's hard to beat President Barack Obama's crowning achievement to bring the entire health care industry under government control because he thinks he knows better. Who needs a free market when we've got top-level bureaucrats and political wizardry?
"but our laws, traditions and values work together to weed out much that is wrong."
For the Barrister--the above quote from today's reading at American Thinker is the critical component. What happens when an entire community of lawyers live in such fear that it is not able to protect, nor willing to protect, the whistleblower? What happens when forced "arbitration" replaces the jury system, and its attendant threat of "trial by peers"?
