We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
So nice I saw it twice. The pagentry, the pagentry. I went to a concert of medieval music my senior year in high school which combined medieval costume with music. The costume made the music all the more enchanting.
The video reminded me of Dante’s Inferno, which I read several years ago for the first time.
It is no accident this came from a Roman Catholic country. This video reminds me of my exposure to the Roman Catholic mass. While I am not a churchgoer, I have enough exposure to the Protestant tradition of my ancestors to be able to contrast the sparse Protestant service with the rich ceremony of the Roman Catholic mass. I once attended a Christmas Eve mass in Guatemala. There was little of the intellectualizing parsing of Biblical verse that I associate with Protestant services. The mass I attended was a ceremony of words, sight and music which gave me an emotional high. I felt much better leaving the mass than I did upon entering.
