We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
You cannot fail a student who is turning in assignments. The content of the assignments is not a criteria for failure. The only reason you can fail a student is for not doing the work. This has been going on for 30 years now--you know you might hurt someone from a minority group then the university will get sued. . Soooo. . .there is the conundrum.
Mr. Kessler maybe you should start addressing this "reality" first.
The world of Education becomes more like Alice in Wonderland every day. As the boy in the posted article is arrested for shooting a spitball with the cylinder of a pen, other educrats are allowing a minority group to carry knives to school.
Many PhD candidates never make it through the really hard part -- the dissertation. They have been dubbed ABDs [All But Dissertation] by the ones who 'made it all the way.' We have a distinguished friend, a mathematician and chemical engineer, who has five PhDs -- count 'em, five. Think of the labor of writing not one, but five dissertations!
