Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Is freedom declining in the world?


Freedom House says it is.


Political freedom has always been a rarity, and a great inconvenience for governments.

Not sure how they are measuring freedom, or that I agree with it.

By my measure, the USA has had our freedoms decreased markedly since Obama took office. See: Health care; overregulation, especially the EPA, and too many others to remember; speech codes and "fairness doctrine-like regulations on the ways; unaccountable and unelected czars, and the general out of balance seizure of power by the executive branch... I could go on.

A few years ago, the USA had freedom. Now name 1 country that has it to the degree the USA did back in say 2004.
I can't, I don't think anyone can.
