We saw The King's Speech last night. Good stuff. Logue basically functioned as the King's psychotherapist. A fine friendship. It's a shame that the King died so young. His docs advised him to smoke, "for his nerves." Lung cancer.

Free markets are great for the creative, ambitious, and energetic. Who would want to de-incentivize those folks? We regular people are in their debt for what they add to life.

In many states such as Connecticut, hazardous waste can only be taken for disposal twice a year, so to add to the Maine instructions:

Store all pieces and all items used in the clean-up process in a safe air-tight container for up to six months, when your town will then accept them.

"Disposing of a light bulb..." The only light bulbs we have to worry about the disposal of are the "short and curlies" -- the compact fluorescent bulbs that our ever-ignorant Congress has mandated to take over from our ever-benign incandescents, which can be easily disposed of by dumping in the trash. No mercury there. These disposal instructions have been posted in various places on the Internet for more than a year, since Nancy Pelosi made her evil bargain with GE, in return for a Large contribution to her campaign war chest. Now GE has closed its last factory to make incandescents, and we're in for it, folks. As we did in Prohibition days, we will have to find a supplier who will defy our Government Light Bulb Prohibition crews and smuggle in incandescent bulbs for us.

Meanwhile, stockpile as many incandescent bulbs as you can store. It's going to be awhile before our busy Repair and Restore crews in Congress will get around to 'restoring' good sense about a harmless and valuable product that has been on the market illuminating our lives for 100 years.

We are in for a conundrum this year. One law passed by our legislature required everyone to use CFLs instead of regular light bulbs. Another passed by the same legislature, however, prohibited people from disposing of any light bulbs with mercury in them.

Maybe this year's session they will tell us what to do with the bulbs they made us buy.

On not being jealous of the wealthy..
My mother was raised on a pioneer-level farm
in the dust bowl days. Outdoor plumbing, took the horse and buggy to town once a month. Usually.

She married a man who worked, for a time, for Boeing, designing airplane parts. Then he started his own small business. She raised us, her children, in the best and most sophisticated culture available... art museums, libraries and concert halls of Kansas City.
Each of us has quite a lot of college education, own our own houses and runs our own small businesses, raising our children to have even more education and available success.

This is America. Anyone can do this.
With some proper financial arrangements, we could even buy back the farm....
Unless we have to share too much of our "wealth".

The contradictions of irrational government policies abound. In the same year, we pass the ObamaCare law which threatens to bankrupt the country in the name of health "care" for all, we mandate the CFL with mercury whose disposal (according to the government itself) poses a serious health hazard, all in the name of forcing consumers to "save" trivial amounts of electrical power. This is regulatory hysteria gone mad. If I lived in Maine, I'd be tempted to take the remains of my broken CFLs and leave them in the middle of the night on the doorsteps of my town hall or state capitol for hazmat disposal.
