We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

A nice New England snowstorm

We've had only 15-18" thus far, I think, but the drifts are the real problem. It's been blowy and blustery, with gusts up to 60 knots. See NYT: “Bundle Up, It’s Global Warming”. Ya gotta laugh - unless it's intended as satire.


I'll try to get some links up when I can, but shoveling and getting things plowed comes first. In the meantime, catch up on our recent posts.


This is early this morning. I love it: 




I took the pup for a walk in the snowy dark, strolling - no, trudging - down the middle of the roads, after my excursion to Dunkin. The old Explorer plowed thru the drifts, with some difficulty. This blacksmith's storefront looked pretty in the snow. He'll make custom stuff, and shoes for your horses too. Anything iron -



Dunkin, this morning. Their 2 am Donut delivery couldn't get through, but the nice Mezzican gals were there making coffee. Dunkin is one of those things in life that you can count on.

We had snow here in SC over Christmas. Managed to get out in the boat for a hour or so - first time ever in a snow storm. :>)

We were going to head back today, but give it time to clear the roads - maybe tomorrow.

Hope y'all had a great day - I know we did. Grandkids are fun. :>)

I have been in duck boats in snow plenty of times. It's always an adventure. Probably dangerous, too.

My parents live on the coast in south Jersey, and they had a foot and a half at 9pm Sunday night. I had 8 inches here in Raleigh. Unfortunately, that NY Times article wasn't meant as satire. I though it was going to be, after the headline and first two paragraphs, alas, it became truly stupid afterwards, worthy of a triple face palm (you have to borrow someone else's hand)

What? They don't bake the donuts on site? I hope Tim Hortons isn't a sham of the same nature!
No snow on the west coast yet, maybe by weekend.

Dunkin is the most overrated place ever. Horrible coffee (and I am a coffee lover, but pass whenever it is from here), and their donuts, which cannot even be made on site (how can a place be a donut shop, but be incapable of making their own donuts?), are just not good. They are consistent though: ever time I have stopped, which has not been in years, the place has always disappointed me.

With the help of the daughters and my Better Two-Thirds, got the cars and driveway cleared (well, most of it - the necessary bit). No plow through yet as our road is not important. So at the end of the driveway is 2 ft. of snow. Not going anywhere anytime soon.

Anyone recall the big snow of Dec 27, 1947? We had no car, so my father and I traveled by bus from Springfield, Mass to Albany to visit Grandma for Christmas. On the return trip the driver got lost. The 27 inch snowfall killed all the smudgepots along construction zones. Was it a Vermont Transit route . . . ?
