We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The closest I've been to a Bald Eagle was at the San Diego Zoo in the middle '70s. It was magnificent! I just stood in awe of how beautiful and powerful it looked! While I can't argue with many of the reasons that Franklin wanted to choose the Wild Turkey as our national bird, I don't think the Bald Eagle can be improved up as a symbol.
A neighbor used to spread chicken farm manure (including dead chickens) on field. One day counted 23 eagles!
Another time came to the edge of the river bank looking down on 2 eagles. First look made me think it was bear cubs they were so tall.
